$1-Million Arrives 100 Years Later

October 30, 2006

One hundred years after one of the original board members at Holyoke Medical Center died, the hospital finally received $1-million the man donated to the hospital, reports The Republican, in Springfield, Mass.

George W. Prentiss had arranged in his will that the money revert to the hospital when his last heir died. That happened in May 2005, when the wire manufacturer’s niece passed away.

The hospital had no idea the gift was coming until bank officials contacted them in mid-October. The money is unrestricted and is the largest gift in the hospital’s 116-year history.
