10 American Aid Workers Evacuated From Sierra Leone After Possible Ebola Exposure

Ten American aid workers from Partners in Health who may have come into contact with the Ebola virus in Sierra Leone are being evacuated to the United States, the Associated Press reports.

The workers, who treated a colleague with the virus, have not shown symptoms but were evacuated “out of an abundance of caution,” according to the nonprofit. Four of them arrived at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha on Saturday. The charity didn’t specify when the others would be evacuated. The sick colleague is the first Partners in Health worker to contract the disease and is being treated at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

This is the largest group of Americans to return home over potential exposure to the virus since the West African outbreak was declared last year. More than 2,000 Partners in Health employees are working in West Africa, including some locals. About 600 are Ebola survivors.
