$10-Million Gift Launches Georgetown U. Social-Impact Center

February 11, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

Georgetown University will use a $10-million donation to establish a social-innovation hub to help students build skills and start organizations to tackle society’s problems, reports The Washington Post.

Georgetown officials said the Beeck Center for Social Impact and Innovation will differ from social-entrepreneurship institutes at other campuses in that it will not be housed within the business school. Students in multiple disciplines, including public policy, foreign service, law, and business, will take part in research and study-abroad programs.

The center is named for donors Olga Maria Beeck, a Georgetown graduate, and her husband, investor Alberto Beeck, who have two children currently attending the university.
