$10-Million N.Y. Gift Sets Record for Public Radio Stations

March 10, 2014 | Read Time: 1 minute

New York Public Radio will announce on Monday a $10-million grant from the Jerome L. Greene Foundation, with most of the funds earmarked for building digital operations, reports The New York Times.

The broadcaster, which operates New York stations WNYC and WQXR as well as New Jersey Public Radio, said the gift is the largest ever for a public radio outlet. The article does not state whether that is the case for inflation-adjusted as well as for raw dollars.

Four-fifths of the new grant will support development of digital features for delivering the broadcaster’s content. The other $2-million will go toward maintaining affordable ticket prices at the Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, which New York Public Radio opened in 2008 with $6 million from the foundation.
