The University of the Pacific, in Stockton, Calif., has received a $100-million pledge from a couple who made their fortune in the real-estate industry, according to a press release issued by the university.
Robert C. and Jeanette Powell pledged $100-million from their estate to the institution. Ms. Powell, an interior designer, is a member of the university’s board; her husband served on the board from 1989 to 1993.
The gift will be used to finance the priorities of a campaign that was supposed to raise $200-million; including the Powell’s pledge, it has raised $325-million. The university and the Powells are in the process of deciding how the gift will be used.
