1,000 Works of East Asian Art Donated to 2 Museums

The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts are announcing Monday the details of a gift of paintings, ceramics, and other works from the estate of collector Mary Griggs Burke, The New York Times reports.

Through the Mary Livingston Griggs and Mary Griggs Burke Foundation, the benefactor, who died in 2012, left the Minneapolis museum nearly 700 works, and the Metropolitan more than 300. Each institution will also receive a $12.5-million cash endowment. Both museums will organize exhibitions this fall showcasing the collections.
