$16.5-Million Gift Backs New Health-Policy Center at Duke

Duke University will establish an institute to explore and implement health-care reform ideas with a $16.5-million donation from alumnus and retired medical executive Robert J. Margolis and his wife, Lisa, The News & Observer in Raleigh, N.C., reports. The Duke-Robert J. Margolis, MD, Center for Health Policy will work with campus experts in clinical care, global health, business, and other areas to develop solutions to making quality health care more efficient and accessible.

Dr. Margolis, a 1971 graduate of Duke’s medical school, is the former managing partner and chief executive officer of HealthCare Partners, a physician-owned medical firm. The policy institute will operate under the aegis of Duke’s Fuqua School of Business and have offices at both the Durham, N.C., campus and a university center in Washington.
