$25 Million From Oberndorf Fund Boosts Psychiatry Research

The University of California at San Francisco announced a $25 million commitment from the Bill and Susan Oberndorf Foundation to support research aimed at uncovering the bases of autism, schizophrenia, depression, and other psychiatric conditions.
The unrestricted grant builds on an earlier $5 million gift from the Oberndorfs that established a distinguished professorship in psychiatry at the San Francisco campus. The couple has also donated to several UCSF medical projects and facilities. Mr. Oberndorf heads Oberndorf Enterprises, a San Francisco-based family holding corporation, and chairs the UCSF Board of Overseers.
