Wayne State University in Detroit has received a $25-million donation from James Anderson, chief executive of Urban Science, and his wife, Patricia, aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship among engineering students and faculty, Crain’s Detroit Business reports. The gift will establish the James and Patricia Anderson Engineering Ventures Institute at the university’s College of Engineering.
Mr. Anderson attended Wayne State before starting Urban Science, which provides consulting services to the automotive industry. The university said the new center would offer expertise and resources to help students and faculty “envision commercial applications for new technology, secure patents, and establish new companies.”
