The Wellcome Trust — Britain’s largest philanthropy — has committed $25-million to a program to promote collaborative work by scientists from developed and developing countries in fighting infectious diseases in the tropics.
The new Infectious Diseases Initiative, to be administered jointly with the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, in Durham, N.C., is intended to help develop the research capacity of developing countries by teaming their scientists with researchers from Britain, Canada, and the United States.
Details about the program may be found at the Web sites of both the Wellcome Trust (http://www.wellcome.ac.uk) and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (http://www.bwfund.org).
