$27-Million Pledged to Boston Groups

How much: $27-million pledge

Who made the gift: Patrick F. Cadigan, retired chief executive of the Electronic Engineering Company of California and a real-estate investor who lives in Corona del Mar, Calif.

Who received it: Boston College received $15-million and Boston College High School was given $12-million.

Donor’s connection to the organization: Mr. Cadigan is an alumnus of both institutions and has been a longtime donor to both schools.

The gift’s purpose: Boston College High School will construct a new center for the arts and recreation; Boston College will use the money to improve its alumni center.


Why he gave: Mr. Cadigan credits the education he received as the key to his professional success. “The Jesuits taught us self-reliance, to make something of ourselves,” he says. “They taught whatever you do, do your best, and do it with honor and integrity.”
