50-Year Volunteer Among ‘Points of Light’ Winners

Following are the people and organizations that have most recently been named to receive President Bush’s Daily Points of Light Award.

The Points of Light Foundation, a Washington charity, assists the president in making the choices and carrying out the award program. The recipients:

2051. Rebecca Sklepovich, Alexandria, Va., a high-school student who assists with activities for elderly nursing-home residents, conducts food drives, and participates in activities for disadvantaged children through the Youth Service Coalition and the Inter School Council, a branch of the American Red Cross. Ms. Sklepovich also started the Christian Student Association in order to help meet community needs.

2052. Bristol-Myers Squibb Medical Imaging, Billerica, Mass., whose employees provide volunteer services at various local nonprofit groups, including LifeLinks Community Center, a program that serves developmentally disabled people.

2053. Project Phoenix, Williamsburg, Va., a mentor and tutoring program for middle-school children conducted by students at the College of William and Mary.

2054. Donna Pollard, Mission Viejo, Calif., who works to raise awareness of and educate people about mental illnesses. Ms. Pollard currently serves on the board of directors of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill–Orange County, and trains volunteers and serves as a teacher for Family-to-Family, a program designed to educate the relatives and friends of people suffering from severe mental illness.

2055. Umo “ho” Care About Reservation Environment, Walthill, Neb., a community-service program designed to benefit the Omaha Indian Reservation that painted and installed trash containers and planted trees and shrubs at various sites in Macy, Nebraska.

2056. Cynthia Herschkowitsch, Carollton, Tex., who, in 1989, founded the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Pet Club, which helps rescue and find homes for mistreated and stray animals, and raises funds for the SPCA.
