A Challenge to AIDS grants

The Bush administration has challenged a court decision that allows nonprofit groups to receive federal money for AIDS-prevention efforts without signing a pledge that they oppose prostitution and sex trafficking, reports The Associated Press.
The Department of Justice is seeking to overturn a May ruling by U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan supported the decision of DKT International, which has distributed condoms to prostitutes in Vietnam, not to sign any pledges.
The Justice Department argues that providing support for sex workers will only help spread HIV and AIDS. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia will now hear the case, although no trial date has been set.
