A Dozen Campaigns to Raise Money for Charity Win Honors

October 16, 1997 | Read Time: 1 minute

A dozen direct-marketing appeals to raise money for charities have won awards in the 68th Annual International Echo Awards competition sponsored by the Direct Marketing Association in New York.

The winners, selected from among 941 entries from 32 different countries, were judged by more than 200 direct-marketing professionals who assessed each entry’s creativity, marketing approach, and results. Charities won Gold, Silver, Bronze, or fourth-place Leader Awards in this year’s contest.

Many of this year’s winners used special enticements to make their direct mail stand out: The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation sent a dozen roses along with a mailing to its most generous donors; the World Jewish Congress mailed business cards with donors’ names on them; and Covenant House, a New York shelter for runaways, included an offer for donors to speak personally with Sister Mary Rose McGeady, who leads the organization.
