How much: $5-million
Who got it: God’s Love We Deliver, a New York charity that delivers meals to people with serious illnesses
Who gave it: The fashion designer Michael Kors
Connection to the charity: Mr. Kors started helping the charity two decades ago and says he has been so impressed by the group’s work that every year “I’ve increased my contribution to them whether financially or by volunteering my time.”
Where the money will go: Mr. Kors approached God’s Love to make the gift to the organization’s $25-million fundraising campaign to expand its headquarters, cooking facilities, and services. The charity plans to move into a 41,000-square-foot space that meets the highest environmental standards.
What the gift aims to accomplish: To double the 21,000 meals now cooked and delivered each week and to teach people how to cook their own healthy meals
Why he made the gift: Mr. Kors says God’s Love helps people who often go without assistance. The charity’s workers, he says, “save the lives of countless people in the New York area, many of whom could otherwise be forgotten.”
