A New Way to Toast Donations
March 2, 2007 | Read Time: 1 minute
A quirky fund-raising site has caught the attention of Lucy Bernholz at Philanthropy 2173. .
For a fee, Your Name on Toast will, well, put your name on a piece of toast and then post it on its Web site.
Your piece of toast becomes a link to your Web site — and the money you pay for your toast gets donated to charities such as Save the Children, World Vision, and Christian Aid.
The concept might sound far fetched, but it appears to be working.
The site says it has raised more than $7,500 for charity simply by toasting and posting. More than 85,000 people have visited the site.
The Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau recently paid $375 for its piece of toast on the site — making it the biggest donor to date. The biggest toast donor gets top billing on the page. The more you donate, the higher your toast will appear.
The site originally had a minimum donation of $5. It has since raised its threshold to $60.
And, in case you are wondering, the site uses real toast.
