The philanthropist Brooke Astor has given away at least $200-million and used her social connections to benefit favorite charities, and as her health fails, some people wonder if another female philanthropist will be able to combine social graces and financial assets as successfully, reports Forbes.
The magazine cites some likely candidates, with lots of money to give, as well as the social connections and serious philanthropic inclinations to fill Mrs. Astor’s shoes.
Among the candidates: Tory Burch, who runs a clothing-design company; Melinda Gates, wife of the Microsoft founder Bill Gates; Evelyn Lauder, a top official of Estée Lauder Companies; and Tatiana Platt, chief trust officer of America Online.
