A Strong Sign of Recovery in Big Gifts

October 20, 2013 | Read Time: 1 minute

Wealthy Americans are on track to give more $1-million-plus donations to charity than they did before the recession. The numbers below are based on giving in the first nine months of each year.

Note: To show how typical big gifts were affected by the downturn, The Chronicle excluded from the count two multibillion-dollar bequests and Warren Buffett’s contributions, which total in the billions. Other than those, all figures are based on donations of $1-million or more that The Chronicle tracks in its database of large gifts.
