ABUSE LAWS

February 6, 2006

Religious organizations in Colorado are concerned about proposals in the state legislature to remove limits on damages that can be assessed against those held liable of allowing children to be sexually abused, reports the Rocky Mountain News. The measure would also end the statute of limitations on when people could be accused of sex abuse. Catholic Archbishop Charles Chaput appealed to his Denver congregation this weekend to demand changes in the legislation, saying that the proposal unfairly burdens religious and private organizations and ignores sexual abuse in public schools and institutions.
