Advice for Writing Case Statements
May 13, 2004 | Read Time: 1 minute
Making the Case: The No-Nonsense Guide to Writing the Perfect Case Statement, by Jerold Panas, seeks to help nonprofit groups draft a document to explain why they deserve support. Mr. Panas, founder and chairman of the Institute for Charitable Giving, in Chicago, says that an effective statement “grabs a person and never lets go.” He gives advice on how to come up with a title for a statement, how to begin writing, and how to incorporate pertinent statistics. The book also includes a list of grammatical rules that Mr. Panas says can be broken in order to prepare a readable and attention-grabbing statement. Excerpts from the opening and closing paragraphs of sample statements and a checklist to help writers evaluate their efforts are also provided.
