Advice on How Mark Zuckerberg Should Donate $45 Billion

February 29, 2016 | Read Time: 1 minute

After gathering thoughts from 40 researchers, fundraisers, foundation staff, and philanthropists about donations that have failed and those that have produced great results, Michael Hobbes sums up in the Huffington Post how the Facebook co-founder should give away his $45 billion pledge.

Philanthropists and nonprofits should adopt a skeptical attitude toward technology, especially when it is divorced from policy change, he says, and they should spend money efficiently, no matter how large the donation, and be wary of efforts that spend large sums on consultants.

The Silicon Valley obsession with “disruption” could have dire consequences if applied to international aid and development work, he adds, so donors should think carefully before trying to overturn public systems.
