March 3, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

As policymakers continue to debate how to better reintegrate former felons into society, some ex-convicts have taken matters into their own hands by forming a nonprofit advocacy group in East Palo Alto, Calif., reports the Los Angeles Times. Barbara Lee to clear the records of local former inmates seeking jobs, as well as urging cities to remove from job-application forms the box that asks whether a person has ever been convicted of a crime.
