Affiliates of Christian Coalition Leave Group

August 28, 2006 | Read Time: 1 minute

Three state chapters of the Christian Coalition of America have left the organization this year, reports the Associated Press.

John Giles, president of the Alabama chapter—which announced its departure last week—said he was frustrated that the national group was spending time on issues such as the environment and Internet access rather than concentrating on topics such as abortion and same-sex marriage.

Chapters in Iowa and Ohio also left this year, and the national organization is $1-million in debt, the Associated Press reports.

Roberta Combs, president of the coalition, said that her organization would survive the losses of state affiliates and that the group would continue to delve into a broad range of issues.
