Aid Group Promises to Rebuild 500 Churches in Sudan
February 9, 2007
Franklin Graham and his aid group Samaritan’s Purse have pledged to rebuild 500 churches in southern Sudan that were destroyed during one of Africa’s longest-running civil wars, reports The Washington Post.
On a recent trip to the region with former Senator Bill Frist, Mr. Graham met with local leaders to evaluate the need for assistance and help support an American-backed cease-fire between the southern Sudanese and the government. The agreement is faltering as attention has shifted to the escalating violence in Darfur, the western region of the country.
