Aid Group Withdraws From Iraq

Christian Peacemaker Teams has pulled out of Iraq because of concerns the charity has become too high profile after several of its workers were taken hostage, reports The Times, in London.
Four of its workers were captured by Islamic extremists in November. One aid worker, Tom Fox, an American, was killed, while the other three were released after four months in captivity.
“The kidnapping caused us to reflect on what we are doing,” said a spokeswoman for the charity, which has headquarters in Chicago and Toronto. “Sometimes the presence of internationals will draw more attention to local individuals or organizations and perhaps put them in danger.”
