Aid Workers in Sri Lanka Found Dead
August 9, 2006
Seventeen employees of the French aid group Action Against Hunger were found dead in the town of Mutur in Sri Lanka, where they were helping to rebuild after the 2004 tsunami, reports Reuters.
The workers, who were Sri Lankan, appeared to have been shot, according to a news release provided by the aid group.
The army blamed the rebel group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, while a pro-rebel Web site accused the government of being responsible for the attacks.
