A Harvard-educated doctor who serves as France’s AIDS ambassador will be the new head of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, reports The Boston Globe.
The $7-billion fund provides one-fifth of the world’s money to fight AIDS and is challenged by the lack of medical infrastructure in many countries it serves, the newspaper reports.
Michel Kazatchkine, 60, who takes over at the end of March, said he wants to improve the charity’s partnerships with other organizations and donors. Peers praise his diplomatic skills.
Dr. Kazatchkine says he wants the fund’s money to “have a positive spillover effect in helping fight other diseases.”
