Nonprofits up north, like the Alaska Zoo, have to adapt to a shortened tourist season, reports Marketplace.
With an off-season that runs from September to May, the zoo has to develop create ways to lure visitors, such as the chance to shadow zookeepers for a day. During the summer months, the zoo extends its hours to accommodate the rush of tourists from cruise ships and tour buses.
