Even as the college prepares to shut its doors for good, approximately 700 alumni of Antioch College, in Yellow Springs, Ohio, have pledged a total of $424,000 toward a $40-million effort to shore up the institution’s finances, reports The Chronicle of Higher Education.
The alumni were challenged to collectively contribute $40,000 by the end of the weekend, but together they raised more than $400,000 in just 18 hours.
The move came after Antioch’s trustees recently announced that a shortage of money and of new students would force them to shut down the college in July.
