Where the money is going:

$122.7-million for immediate disaster relief, including food and counseling for victims and their families, as well as for rescue and recovery workers.$81-million to cover the immediate cash needs of families that lost at least one wage earner in the attacks. $14-million toward direct support costs.


AMERICARES FOUNDATION

Name of fund: AmeriCares Heroes’ Fund, Aid for Terrorist Attack Victims

Where the money is going:

To provide general relief related to the attack on the World Trade Center (Aid for Terrorist Attack Victims). The Heroes’ Fund has distributed $4.5-million, to support immediate family members of the New York firefighters, police officers, emergency-medical workers, and employees of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey who died in the attacks.

CITIZENS’ SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION OF AMERICA — LUMINA FOUNDATION FOR EDUCATION

To support organizations in New York and Washington that are working directly with victims of the attacks and their families. Distributions currently have been made to people affected by the attacks who are living in the Washington area.


KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION

Where the money is going:


To help children whose lives were hurt by the attacks by covering short-term expenses such as day care and groceries, as well as long term expenses such as college tuition. 40 families in New York have received $1,500 each to help with immediate expenses. Windows of Hope Relief Fund received $30,000 to assist the 72 employees of the World Trade Center Club and Windows on the World restaurant, located at the top of the World Trade Center, who died in the attacks.


LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION

Where the money is going:

$20,000 was spent on supplies for relief workers in New York, and $10,000 for workers in Washington. $38,000 was spent to purchase five trailers that will be placed on-site to be used as a place for workers to warm up and rest.The remainder will support the efforts of Lions Clubs in New York, Washington, and other affected cities to assist the victims and their families, as well as relief workers, in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.


NEW YORK COMMUNITY TRUST UNITED WAY OF NEW YORK CITY

Where the money is going:

$20.6-million cash assistance to victims and families; $8.9-million to allow organizations to provide other services to victims and families (grief counseling, job retraining, etc.); $2-million for services to affected community organizations; $8.9-million in loans to affected community organizations; $1.8-million cash reimbursement to organzations (ambulance corps, etc.) that were involved in rescue and recovery efforts.


ROTARY INTERNATIONAL

To provide monetary awards and college scholarships for the families of the victims and emergency personnel who died in the attacks or were adversely affected by the events of September 11.

Has awarded grants of up to $20,000 apiece to 42 nonprofit groups to provide immediate assistance to working poor people who were affected by the attacks, to promote tolerance, civil liberties, and human rights, and to provide “alternative media voices to effectively frame the complex political, social, and economic history of this painful crisis.”

AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK

Where the money is going:

$30,000 has been granted to the Visiting Nurse Service of New York City, to help people who do not have medical insurance pay for the treatment of respiratory illnesses resulting from the attacks.$17,000 has been used to support Operation Return Home, a program to inform residents about proper cleanup of dust and debris from their homes and businesses, and to distribute air purifiers and vacuums to buildings affected by the disaster. $15,000 has enabled an environmental-health consultant assist the American Lung Association of New York work with issues affecting the public.


AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS

To provide rescue assistance, medical treatment, and new or temporary homes for pets whose owners are missing or known dead as a result of the September 11 attacks.


FARMERS’ MARKET FEDERATION OF NEW YORK

Name of fund: Fund for World Trade Center Greenmarket Farmers

To assist farmers who sustained losses after the attacks on the World Trade Center that were not covered by insurance. Distributions will also be made to help farmers who lost revenue at other markets in Manhattan that were closed following the attacks.

To provide financial assistance, such as mortgage payments, and transportation aid to families of firefighters who died in the Wold Trade Center rescue efforts. A total of $323,703.56 was distributed to each of the 347 families.


NATIONAL ITALIAN AMERICAN FOUNDATION

To pay for the educational needs of the children of firefighters, rescue workers, and medical personnel who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center.

Where the money is going:

Distributed $48.7-million to families of members of the New York City Fire Department and its Emergency Medical Services Command, the New York City Police Department, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and other government offices who were injured or killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center. If resources permit, the families of other people who were injured or killed on September 11 may also be included as beneficiaries.


NEW YORK CITY POLICE FOUNDATION
