An Introduction to Using Online Service Providers

March 21, 2002 | Read Time: 1 minute

The eNonprofit: A Guide to ASPs, Internet Services, and Online Software, by Michael Stein and John Kenyon, shows nonprofit organizations how they can benefit from using application service providers, which are companies that provide software tools over the Internet, usually for a monthly subscription fee. Such software can help organizations with functions like e-mail messaging, membership-list management, Web-site content management, or volunteer recruitment. The first part of the guide, geared toward introducing beginners to ASP’s, lists 10 services that the authors say are simple for charities to use. The guide also includes a directory listing providers, instructions on how to select a service provider and put its software into use, a section on the pros and cons of these services, and a glossary of relevant technical terms.
