Appeals Court Rules in Islamic-Charity Case
February 14, 2007
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit upheld on Tuesday the Treasury Department’s decision to freeze the assets of the Islamic American Relief Agency-USA, in Columbia, Mo., for alleged ties to terrorists, reports the Associated Press.
The Treasury Department has said the charity is an affiliate of a Sudanese group that has financed terrorism.
Officials from Islamic American Relief Agency-USA said the group operates independently of the African organization and that its Constitutional rights were violated when the government froze its funds.
