Arab philanthropists and governments say they may suspend their support of American universities and charities after the controversy that erupted over the much-criticized plan to allow a Dubai company to operate six U.S. ports, reports The Wall Street Journal. While Dubai Ports World has decided to back out of the deal, Muna AbuSulayman, executive manager of strategic research and studies for Kingdom Holding Company, said the furor over the ports deal “does make you think twice” about contributing to U.S. institutions. Ms. AbuSulayman helps guide the philanthropy of Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, who gave $20-million each to Harvard and Georgetown Universities.
