Dennis Scholl, former vice president for arts at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation has been named chief executive. Mr. Scholl is also a filmmaker and has received 11 regional Emmys for his cultural documentaries, including films about Tracey Emin, Theaster Gates, Wynton Marsalis, and Frank Gehry.

Center for International Policy

Salih Booker, vice president of external relations at the United States Institute of Peace, has been named executive director. He previously served as an adviser to the executive secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Mr. Booker starts September 1.

Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy

Kate Carr, chief executive of Safe Kids Worldwide, will lead the health charity.

Spark

Jeanette Castellanos, executive director of Citizen Schools Illinois, has been named chief executive of the organization, which runs career-exploration programs for middle-school students.

Other Notable Appointments

• Chana Budgazad Sheldon has been named Miami director and national program adviser of ProjectArt, a nonprofit that works with public libraries to offer after-school arts programs and studio spaces for artists. Most recently, she served as executive direct of Locust Projects, a small artist-run gallery.
• Warren Chapman has been named vice president for advancement at the Healthy Schools Campaign. He previously served as chief advancement officer at the Chicago Lighthouse.
• Kevin Connelly has been named director of development for the Animal Legal Defense Fund. He was associate director of the Earth Island Institute for more than 11 years.
• Marcia Crawley has been appointed vice president for development at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Most recently she served as senior director of development at Michigan State University.
• Heather Kukla has been promoted to vice president and general counsel at Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies. Ms. Kukla joined the foundation in 2009 as director of legal affairs and was promoted to general counsel in 2016. (See a Chronicle article on the growth of the Cargill fund.)
• Dan Peña started as vice president for institutional advancement at Siena Heights University on July 31. He previously served as associate director of annual giving for graduate business programs at the University of Notre Dame.
• Altaf Rahamatulla has been named as a program officer at the New York Foundation. He previously served as a program associate on the gender, racial, and ethnic justice team at the Ford Foundation.

Departures

• Bonny Moellenbrock has left her position as executive director of Investors’ Circle, a nonprofit that promotes investment in socially minded businesses. Alexandra LaForge, director of strategic programs, is serving as interim executive director.

Legacies

• Russell Ebeid, a Detroit area businessman and philanthropist, died on July 30. He was 77. Mr. Ebeid was a longtime supporter of the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services, and the library and resource center at its Arab American National Museum was named in his honor.
• Harold Williams, the founding president and chief executive of the J. Paul Getty Trust, died at home on July 30. He was 89. Mr. Williams conceived of the Getty Center, home to the trust’s four operating programs, and a museum. He led the trust from 1981 to 1998.
