Associated Black Charities Head Quits
July 26, 2006
Gary Officer, who became president of Associated Black Charities 18 months ago, resigned July 13 after being threatened with firing, according to internal memos obtained by The Sun.
Board Chairman Nathaniel E. Jones Jr. said that Mr. Officer “was not asked to resign” and that the departure was voluntary. But the Baltimore charity’s internal documents show that Mr. Jones required Mr. Officer to resign or face a termination vote by the full board of directors. No reason was cited in the documents explaining the move.
