February 26, 1998 | Read Time: 1 minute

History: Established in 1994 by Rebecca Brogan, then a freshman at Pine Crest School, a private institution in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. It is run by students.

Purpose and areas of support: To inspire Pine Crest School students to be aware of and help needy infants, children, and teen-agers in Broward County, Fla. The organization raises money and makes grants to youth organizations in the county.

Finances: The organization has raised $21,000 and made $12,000 in grants. The group has no overhead expenses and plans to distribute all of the money it raises.

Sources of funds: The foundation has received $8,000 in grants from the Plan for Social Excellence, a private foundation in Mt. Kisco, N.Y. To receive those grants, the organization had to raise that much money on its own. The teen-agers raise money primarily through small fund-raising events. The fund has also received donations from Pine Crest’s student council and student clubs.

Key officials: Ms. Brogan, program coordinator; Paul Aldridge, faculty moderator.

Application procedures: Grant applications are accepted throughout the academic year. Organizations that want to apply should contact the foundation and ask for a “Request for Funding” application.

Address: c/o Pine Crest School, 1501 Northeast 62nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. 33334-5116; (954) 492-4154.
