The Open Society Institute-Baltimore, an organization started by philanthropist George Soros, announced last week that it expects to be able to raise the money needed to keep its doors open, reports The Baltimore Sun. Last year, Mr. Soros said he would no longer support the organization, but would provide a one-time infusion of $10-million if the group was able to raise twice that amount from other donors.
Thanks to donations from the Annie E. Casey Foundation, in Baltimore, and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, in Owings Mills, Md., the Baltimore Open Society organization expects to raise the $20-million by 2008.
