Baltimore to Seize Foundation’s Properties
November 22, 2006
The City of Baltimore is moving to condemn several properties owned by the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, after negotiations to purchase the mostly vacant properties fell through, reports The Sun, in Baltimore.
Since 1999, the city has planned to redevelop a 3.6-acre “superblock” of housing, offices, and shops in its west side, a decayed area that has recently seen the beginnings of a rebirth. Baltimore has accused the Weinberg Foundation, which owns more than half of the properties in the six-block area, of stalling the project; the foundation has said it tried to negotiate with the city without success.
