May 31, 2007

HSBC, a British financial institution, has announced it plans to give $100-million over the next five years to four organizations to prevent climate change, reports The Independent.

The money will go to the Climate Group, the Earthwatch Institute, the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, and the World Wildlife Fund. The gift will support conservation projects, field research, and responses to climate change.

The gift is the biggest charitable donation ever made by a British company.
