Barnes Decision Made Without Knowledge of State Pledge
October 17, 2006
A Pennsylvania court’s controversial 2004 decision to allow the Barnes Foundation, an art collection and school, to overturn the wishes of its late founder and relocate from its suburban home to downtown Philadelphia, was made without the judge in the case knowing that more than $100-million had been set aside by the state for the move, the Los Angeles Times reports.
More than $107-million was designated for the move as part of Pennsylvania’s 325-page budget for fiscal year 2001-2.
The judge in the case ruled last December to approve the move to downtown Philadelphia.
