Bay Area Broadcasting Stations Merge
May 2, 2006
Two public-broadcasting stations in the San Francisco Bay Area plan to combine operations to form Northern California Public Broadcasting as a way to cut costs and expand their reach, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
KQED, in San Francisco, will merge with KTEH, in San Jose, a move they say could save about $1-million a year in operating costs. Jeff Clarke, president of KQED and the person who will oversee the newly formed organization, says the merger will also give the group more clout with distributors and corporate sponsors.
