Billionaire Donors Support Lawsuit Fighting Teacher Tenure

April 14, 2016

Partnership for Education Justice, an advocacy group funded by the Walton family, which founded Walmart, and billionaire Eli Broad, is supporting parents in Minnesota who are suing to dismantle tenure protections for teachers, reports The New York Times.

The parents believe that tenure harms poor minority kids who they say are more likely to have ineffective teachers.

Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers, says removing workplace protections for teachers will ultimately hurt students.
