Bits: A Technology-Assistance Group Expands Support; Grants for Internet Access

  • CompuMentor, in San Francisco, has received more than $350,000 in new grants for its TechSoup Web site from the AOL Time Warner Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Microsoft Corporation, the Morino Institute, and the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. TechSoup provides information about technology for nonprofit organizations. To get there: Go to http://www.techsoup.org.
  • The Verizon Foundation, in New York, is offering grants of $240 to help nonprofit organizations pay for Internet access from the company of their choice. Although any size charity is eligible to apply, the new grant program is designed to benefit groups with annual budgets under $500,000. Organizations that currently have Internet access are ineligible. Application forms are available at http://foundation.verizon.com or by calling (800) 360-7955.
