Bits: Public Interest Registry Seeking Nominations for .Org Advisory Council

  • The Microsoft Corporation, in Redmond, Wash., has announced a $5-million grant to NPower that is contingent on the organization’s raising an equal amount of money. There is no deadline by which NPower has to raise the money, but the national network of 12 organizations that provide technology assistance to other charities hopes to raise $2.5-million this year.
  • The fourth annual International Computer Refurbishers Summit will take place March 9-10 in Washington. The meeting is organized by TechSoup.org, a service of CompuMentor that provides technology information for nonprofit organizations, and by Computers for Schools, an association of computer refurbishers from across the country.   • The Public Interest Registry, the Reston, Va., organization that manages the dot-org Internet domain that is used by nonprofit groups, is seeking nominations for eight seats on its .ORG Advisory Council.
