Bits: Wildlife Alerts and Books for the Poor

April 23, 1998 | Read Time: 1 minute

* The World Wildlife Fund in Washington has started a “conservation action network” (http://takeaction.worldwildlife.org). Visitors can view “action alerts” on issues such as the protection of tigers and then send a fax directly to their Congressional representatives to voice their opinions. By the end of this month, the site also plans to make available a “personal action center” that people can customize so that they only get information relating to their environmental interests.

* The Sabre Foundation, in Cambridge, Mass., has created a searchable on-line database of more than 60 charities that provide books to poor people overseas (http://www.sabre.org/SAP/BOOKORG.html). Each listing includes contact information and a description of the group’s services.
