Georgina Bloomberg—an avid horsewoman and the 23-year-old daughter of Michael R. Bloomberg, mayor of New York—has followed in her father’s philanthropic footsteps by establishing a charity to give used riding clothes to needy equestrians, reports The New Yorker.
Her charity, the Rider’s Closet, collects used jodhpurs, boots, helmets, shirts, and other expensive articles of clothing to distribute to less-wealthy riders. Some of the clothes, bought new, can cost more than $200, but Ms. Bloomberg says that horseback riding is not necessarily reserved for rich people.
“Yes, there are a lot of people who are wealthy in our sport; we understand that,” said Ms. Bloomberg, who competes in show-jumping competitions. “But I have a couple of good friends who have no money. They work at a barn to be able to get a riding lesson.”
