Book Seeks to Inspire Charity Among Youngsters

February 17, 2005 | Read Time: 1 minute

The Giving Book: Open the Door to a Lifetime of Giving, by Ellen Sabin, teaches children about charity and shows them how they can make a difference in the lives of others. Designed to appeal to readers ages 6 to 11, the book provides children with ways to help their families and the world around them, for instance by cleaning up at home or recycling their trash. Its scrapbook format encourages children to record who they have helped, and to use drawings and journal entries to think about ways they and their friends can share their talents with others. A teacher’s guide, with ideas for incorporating the book’s lessons into the classroom, is available free on the publisher’s Web site.
