Boston Charities Explore Mergers

With more and more charities incorporating every year and grant support stretching thin, some nonprofit groups in Boston are finding that mergers with similar organizations can bolster their programs by consolidating donations, reports The Boston Globe. Bob Harrington, a senior manager at La Piana Associates, a California firm that specializes in nonprofit mergers, says that this trend is spreading across the country, with several regional affiliates of groups such as the Girl Scouts and YMCA looking into consolidation.
