Boston Public Schools Win Major Education Prize
September 20, 2006
The Broad Prize for Urban Education, with $500,000 in scholarships, was awarded to Boston Public Schools this week, reports The Boston Globe.
The school system had been a finalist for five years for the largest education prize in the country, and with the latest award will have received $1-million from the Broad Foundation in recent years. The prize recognizes the urban system that best shows student improvement while narrowing the achievement gap that traditionally separates poor and minority students from wealthier, white students, the Globe reports.
