Boy Who Aids Cancer Patients Among New ‘Points of Light’

Following are the people and organizations that have most recently been named to receive President Bush’s Daily Points of Light Award.

The Points of Light Foundation, a Washington charity, assists the president in making the choices and carrying out the award program. The recipients:

2317. Turner Harris, Little Rock, Ark., who has recruited retired physicians to provide volunteer medical services to Little Rock residents who can’t afford to obtain care.

2318. Henry Zarrow, Tulsa, Okla., who has raised money to build and operate a local center for homeless people, coordinated its annual-giving campaign, and donated property for its use.


2319. The Big Shoulders Fund, Chicago, which provides scholarships for students attending Roman Catholic schools in inner-city Chicago. The fund also provides Catholic schools with operating and capital grants and connects them with corporate donors.

2320. Anthony Leanna, Suamico, Wis., who started the Heavenly Hats program when he was 11. Through this program, he collects new hats from businesses and individual donors and distributes them to children and adults who have lost their hair following chemotherapy.

2321. Alexandra Epstein, Las Vegas, who organizes high-school volunteers to help elementary-school students learn to read. She has also volunteered at a hospital, where she helps staff members with Spanish-English translations.

2322. Joe Rowe, Boulder City, Nev., who helps collect and organizes the distribution of donated food and medical equipment to needy people.
